He’s finally done! After years of pitiful pleading looks from my fiance, and months of work, I’ve finished my Bowser pattern. As with everything Beau asks for this amigurmi had to have a lot of little details and since he’s Bowser he had to be pretty big.
This particular Bowser is modeled off of the more recent versions of Bowser (i.e. from Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii). I began working on him during the summer, off and on, until school started again. This year is my last year of student teaching and I am there full time. I have been so tired, I haven’t been able to do much crocheting. I finally found some time this weekend to finish him up. I hope you enjoy!

Assembly
There is alot of pieces to keep track of. I would get an experienced sewer to attach your pieces. I probably won’t exlain this well enough but I’m always happy to help if you have a question after reading this part. Looking at the pictures will be your biggest help for placement.
I started with the the face. I took two of the four bigger balls and sewed them together. Then I took the smaller ball and placed it in the middle creating a nose. The two small pipes are then attached to the side of the 2 big balls. Afterwards, attach the last 2 bigger balls to the end of the small pipes. I then take the 3 big pipes and sew them together at an angle to form a curve for the lower jaw. I then attached it to the big balls to create his mouth.
I then attached the head to the mouth and then sewed on the lower mouth piece to the bottom. This is the whole head piece. I then sewed his neck collar to the head piece. Sit this aside.
I attached the finger nails to the fingers and the fingers to the arms. The arms were then attached to the body. The toe nails were placed on the feet and then sewed on to the leg. The leg was then placed on the body with the hdc facing away from the body.
The tail was then added . The shell was attached to the white part of the shell and sewed on to the body. The spikes were added later. Each spike has an orange ring around them created by chaining until it wraps around the spike and sewing it on.
Sew the head on to the body. Place the spikes on the side of the head and also chain around the spike.
Sew the hair on to the head with a 1, 2, 1, 1, pattern starting from the bottom of the head coming up to the top. Cut out the felt for the eyes and then place eyebrows on after. The upper flap should be sewed on to the lower eyebrow.
The teeth should then be added to the mouth and the spikes should be attached to the ribs around his arms.
I sewed in a red piece of felt into his mouth to cover up the stuffing. You can add a tongue if you wish.
The belly patch was the last thing added.
I realize Bowser is hard to put together so I am going to slowly go through and re-make him following my pattern and adding picture of how I put him together for those who may want some extra help with assembly.
Connect the green head to the mouth. Will have hang over on the back side. Sew under mouth to close off gap. Sew black collar on following the seam of the buff and green and then around the under side of the mouth.
The headd is attached on to the f/o. side of the body. Leaning the head slightly forward at an angle.

Truth be told, I’m still using your Yoshi pictures to try to deconstruct it and reverse engineer one of my own… but I may have to put that on hold to start in on a Bowser now.

I have no yarn estimates. I used basic Red Heart Super Saver and it was less then a skien for each color. He is about a foot tall and 7 inches wide

Hi again – question : where do you get the eyes for the toy?
The eyes are made by my fiancee and he uses felt. What I would suggest is either drawing them from a picture or sizing it up and printing off a picture of bowser’s eye and using it as a model to cut out the felt. We layer different colors on top of each other and then hot glue them together.

I have to admit i follow ALOT of crochet sites but this has to be one of the most amazing patterns with so much detail! I tried making a pattern once…did not come out well.

Hi! I am attempting to make this and was a little confused on the shell, round 14…After round 15 I have the correct number of 66. I make 4 sets of dec3, dec2, then sc 50 after that….it looks weird (all bunched up on one side) and I’m only getting 47 sc after the 4 sets of dec3 and dec2 🙁 any idea what I’m doing wrong????
Round 14 doesn’t have any decreases. dc means double crochet, you should end up with 70 stitches in round 14. Hope that helps!
Hello again, I need help again :p I’m working on the belly and I’m confused about row 3. I have 5 loops from row 2, but it looks like i need 7 for row 3? Do I crochet into the 3 chain or am I reading the pattern wrong again?

I LOVE this pattern! 😀 It’s really great and easy to follow. However I had a question about the assembly. My body piece turned out to look like an egg. I’m assuming that’s how it was supposed to look. Does the head go on the fatter end or the smaller one? Normally I would use the smaller end but it doesn’t look right and I’d prefer to do it right the first time ^_^ thanks!

This pattern is so amazing!! I’m a little confused though. Looking at the pictures it appears that the upper brow part is more than just one row. I understand that it’s just the two stitches but is it really a single row?

Hello!!! I finally finished all the pieces and have them in a bag…….im stuck. How do I attach the feet to the legs? The legs end at 30 sc, the feet end at 36 sc, do I attach them and decrease where the dc’s are? I’m a little bit confuese.
oK…..after staring at it for 45 minutes I had a revelation….I’m supposed to attach the open end of the leg to the body n the other end to the foot…… I answered my own question. Thanks!!!

Hi, me again. I left the head for last because it seemed to have the most work. How exactly do i attach the head to the jaw/mouth to the mouth flap?
I’m really not good at explaining so I’m going to give it a go. There are some pictures at the end of the post to help with the head.
Take the mouth parts(buff) and sew the green head around the top part of the mouth. It should fit nicely in behind the nose and the side of the cheeks. A lot of the head will not be sewn to anything at first. Then after the head is sewn on, Take the buff under moouth part and lay it underneath. I would start sewing it on around the green part of the head and around to also sew it on to the buff mouth parts. It should fit pretty nicely on there and be pretty clear how that part attaches. I hope that helps. 🙂
Finally almost done! Thank you for all the help! I’m ready to attach the felt pieces for the eyes together….did you sew all the pieces together around the rim and sew the whole eye onto the head or did you use glue or something?
I just glued each piece together and then glued it to the head. hope that helps
What kind of glue did you use? Elmer’s don’t work very well 🙁
I used a hot glue gun….one can be picked up at any walmart. You could always sew it on with needle and thread if you have those around.

Hi, I was wondering if you had more pictures of the assembly and placement process. I was able to figure out the head and mouth section but I can’t make out the rest from you’re pictures. I think I just need some of the back facing directly and one looking down from the top so I can place his hair and horns just right.

I would definitely stuff as you go throughout, stuffing each piece. However, if you don’t have much room to store all the pieces then you can wait to the end. I hope he likes his Bowser.

I just started crocheting this Bowser (which by the way is so awesome!) and I have a quick question. I am at the “pipes X2” part, and with only five rounds, they are really small! They don’t look that small in your pictures, but they do in another poster’s that posted a picture of their finished Bowser. Are the side pipes supposed to be that small? I don’t want to mess it up, I’m so excited to be working on it!

Yes, the pipes are that small. You could make them longer depending on your stitches, and I don’t think it would hurt anything. I’m glad you like it. 🙂

Hey! Thanks for making the pattern and especially for making it free! I have a question, though. For the hair, in the last row, it says to make 7 hdc. In the row before it, there were 15 stitches. How did it go from 15 to 7 with just a half double crochet?
Hello, I’m glad you like it! For the hair, I left the remaining 8 stitches unworked, and just fastened off to make it look smooth (which can be done with a slip stitch if needed). This helps push one side of the hair up a little to create a more curved look 🙂 It does look weird when reading it though, I think I should add, leaving remaining sc unworked. 🙂
A second question! When wrapping the white part of the shell around the green part, is the white part on top of the green? or green on top of white? or are they directly next to each other? Sorry this is sort of a dumb question haha!
There are no dumb questions. They are more next to each other with the green slightly on top of the white 🙂 My explanation sounds sorta dumb haha
on rows 3-? on the shell, do you crochet 12 sts per row? mine wouldn’t wrap around the shell..it was to tight.
For the white part of the shell, this i s done in the round and creates a long tube that you place on the outer rim of the green shell, all the way around. I hope that helps.

Hello, I was wondering how did you put the White and green part of the shell together? Did you fill the White part? Also how did you attach the orange part to the bottom of the spike? On the shell? Thanks:)
I did stuff the white part with stuffing and created the oval shape of the shell, then I took the green and laid it on top/on the inside of the shell and sewed around it. The orange part is just sewn on to the green part of the shell. Hope that helps, if not feel free to ask. 🙂

MR means magic ring….a quick google or youtube search will give you videos and tutorials of how to do this. This is how I learned to make my rounds so I always use a magic ring. Hope that helps

Hi Shelly, I have another quick question. How did you get the shell to wrap around Bowser and not see the inside of the shell? When I place the shell around my Bowser, it doesn’t wrap around nicely, like I have to bend it to not see the inside of the shell. I mean it’s almost too big, even though I followed the pattern. Could you please tell me what I could do? It might be better once I have the arms sewn on, but for right now, my shell doesn’t seem to fit. Do I need to shape the shell to be wider instead of long and oval-shaped?
Sorry to be so pesty! It’s really coming together and I’m so excited to see the end result!
I stuff the shell alot and made it a little wider and sew the white part of the shell to the body and it hides the inside of the shell. I hope that helps…if not, I can take a picture of bowser and put it on the page of the places I attached his shell.

tried knitting…didnt like it. my girlfrind showed me amigurumi and i loved the idea. i tought myself to crochet because i wanted a chocobo. then a sackboy. both came out well. now im working on this. so far seems simple enough. just a lot to it. i cant wait to see the finished product. thanks for the pattern.

Hello! I finished making the green part of the shell and it looks too big compared to his back. I was wondering how I should approach this.
It will look a little big, however when you attach it to the white part of his shell it will make more sense. I recommend when sewing it to the white part, first using pins to hold it in place exactly where you would like it to be sewn. Also when filled with the fiberfill it will puff out and not be as flat.
Tried this myself took much longer than i expected lol but im new to crochet and it came out great totally worth the time thank you for the pattern!

Hi. I’m not sure what you mean by attaching the hair in a 1,2,1,1 pattern. Also how many spikes go on each piece. Thanks for the awesome pattern!
